Subalpine tree seedlings: Assessing aging methodology and drivers of establishment

چکیده

The recent impacts of climate change have threatened the health and functioning forested ecosystems on a global scale. Widespread tree mortality from altered disturbance regimes creates significant uncertainty about recovery in subalpine ecosystems. Aging seedlings is an important mechanism for understanding regeneration, when paired with long-term climate, can provide critical information climatic drivers establishment. In this study, we destructively sampled aged 229 Picea engelmannii (Engelmann spruce) Abies lasiocarpa (subalpine fir) beetle-affected postfire stands northern Colorado southern Wyoming. We modeled relationship between nondestructive aging methods seedling age to assess accuracy proxies predicting true seedlings. compared conditions years high establishment non-establishment ascertain regional recruitment. Both height terminal bud scar counts were predictors age, although correlations weaker older that exhibited suppressed growth. Growing season precipitation had positive spruce-fir while minimum temperatures, annual vapor pressure water deficits negative Height do not accurately predict precise ages but more Average may suitable low-levels stands. However, large pulses occur cooler wetter growing average, posing new recruitment warming world.

Evaluation Methodology for Assessing Management System Establishment Support Tools

The establishment and operation of a certified management system (e.g. for Quality Management or Information Security Management) according to an international standard is a complex task for an organization. Hence, organizations usually search for support in order to successfully establish the management system and pass the certification procedure. This support is represented by consultants and...

Disease drivers of aging.

It has long been known that aging, at both the cellular and organismal levels, contributes to the development and progression of the pathology of many chronic diseases. However, much less research has examined the inverse relationship-the contribution of chronic diseases and their treatments to the progression of aging-related phenotypes. Here, we discuss the impact of three chronic diseases (c...

Tree Transplanting and Establishment

Many aspects of transplanting change over time. Modern equipment has made it possible to transplant larger trees with "soil balls" more affordably. Containerized production has grown in popularity for many reasons, including the ability to plant in any season. One thing remains the same-plants must quickly establish or reestablish a normal, spreading root system on the new site to minimize susc...

Establishment of the New Zealand Drivers Study.

AIM Despite a significant improvement since graduated licensing was introduced, traffic related injury remains the leading cause of death and hospitalisation among young New Zealanders. The New Zealand Drivers Study (NZDS) was established with a view to providing information that would lead to an improvement in this situation. The NZDS is a prospective cohort study designed to explore the relat...
